About the Project

The Karakalpakstan Soil Geoportal was developed by the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) within the project “Development of Sustainable Agricultural Production Systems in Degraded Areas of Karakalpakstan” , funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) in 2026.

Soil Data Collection

Soil samples were collected across Karakalpakstan from March to July 2026 using a GHRERTX soil testing device , following FAO-based soil sampling methodology.

Seven soil parameters were measured: pH, electrical conductivity (EC), soil moisture, soil temperature, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K).

Spatial Interpolation

The collected soil data were processed and spatially interpolated using Empirical Bayesian Kriging (EBK) and Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) methods to produce continuous spatial maps of soil properties across Karakalpakstan. Pixel resolution: 500 meters.

Land Use / Land Cover

The geoportal also provides a Land Use / Land Cover classification map of Karakalpakstan with 10 m resolution for 2026. The LULC map is displayed separately from the soil maps to allow direct visual comparison without raster layers obscuring each other.

Geoportal

The Geoportal provides interactive access to soil parameter maps, land use / land cover information, soil sampling locations, administrative boundaries, and downloadable project data at different soil depths.
